WHY NOW?
This story needs to be told now because the silencing of women who speak about abuse is not a problem of the past - it’s unfolding right now, in every part of the world. Even as conversations about gender violence become more visible, many women continue to face disbelief, backlash and legal threats when they try to share their experiences.
The rise of online misinformation is making the situation even more complex. We’ve seen recently that in cases like Amber Heard, who fearlessly spoke on camera for our film, Gisèle Pelicot, Blake Lively and Nikita Hand, long-standing misconceptions and biases are being amplified and weaponised at unprecedented speed and scale.
By telling this story now, we can shine a light on the forces that continue to shape who is heard and who is silenced, and help push for the cultural and legal change that is urgently needed.

OUR AIM
Work closely with partners and allies from the legal, judicial and gender violence sectors to use SILENCED to call for law reform and cultural change to better support victims of gender based violence and their right for free speech.

WHO ARE OUR TARGETS?
COMMUNITY
We want to support audiences to understand the issues shown in the film and give tiered actions to take including speaking up when we hear misogyny. We invite audiences to support the women in the film and partners like Working Women’s Centre “I’m Speaking” campaign and the STOP THE SLAPP alliance’s call for anti-SLAPP legislation.
SECTOR
We have engaged with organisations and advocates in the legal, media and sexual assault support sectors to support our event screenings with panels to unpack the issues in the film and activate audiences. We will continue to work with these partners and allies to promote the work being done to make real and lasting reform and culture change.
GOVERNMENT
We are using the film to support the STOP THE SLAPP alliance and their call for anti-SLAPP legislation and our partners calls for other law reforms by hosting screenings and post screening discussions with pollies and leaders all around the country, including a Federal Parliamentary screening early next year.
